Let’s get started
Thankfully, with a little commitment, you can maintain your skin’s natural beauty in the comfort of your home! Keep reading to get some tips and simple at-home methods to reduce stress, maintain your radiant skin, and decrease the signs of aging!
By following the 4 simple steps Below twice daily for at least 66 days, (the amount of time experts say it takes to build a healthy habit of good skin) your DIY skin care routine will feel as effortless as brushing your teeth twice a day.
Bonus tip #1
Dermatologists say to see results from consistent good skin care products it takes about 90 days to see real and lasting results so don’t give up on your beauty routine too quickly. Give it time and your skin will thank you by becoming the face you want to share with the world.
Step 1 Cleansing Your Skin Correctly
The first step in caring for your skin is to properly cleanse it! Perspiration, grease, dust, stale make-up, dirt, and bacteria all collect on your skin and must be completely removed.
There are many skin types; oily, dry, sensitive, and prone to acne. Different cleansers do better with each individual type based on the pH and other varying factors. Cleansing helps to clean the skin, open the pores, and allows for the skin to best absorb the products you are going to apply.
Helpful beauty tip If you wear a lot of makeup
If you wear a good amount of make-up, you may want to first use a make-up remover to get the majority of the make-up off your face before cleansing. Some swear by micellar water as a face cleanser I love it as a make-up remover. I also love basic ponds or other creamy cleanser. You can learn more about micellar water here.
Of course, you can also use make-up wipes. Of course when using facial wipes, often one towelette isn’t efficient enough to get all the goop and mascara from your face. Therefore, they are not the most cost-effective choice.
Provided however that you love using facial wipes as a makeup remover, I recommend the brand below, as I have used them myself when traveling and like them the best of all that I have tried.
I recommend these by L’oreal Gentle Makeup Remover, L’Oreal Paris Revitalift Makeup Removing Wipes with Vitamin E, Face Cleansing Towelettes they are my hands down favorite makeup wipes. They do not sting your eyes, they are an “Amazon pick” and you can buy them in bulk on Amazon as well.
To properly cleanse, begin by wetting the face with lukewarm water. Apply the cleanser that is best for your skin type on your face and neck and gently massage in a circular, upward motion for at least five minutes (duration also depends on the instructions provided with the cleanser you are using). Remove by using a damp washcloth and warm water to ensure all the residue is removed from the face.
Now that your skin is clean we are ready to move onto the next step which is toning and exfoliating your skin. Notably this helps your skin in two ways. Rids skin of dead skin cells and left over cleanser, closes pores and preps your skin drink in your moisturizer for max benefit.

Step 2 Toning and Exfoliating your Skin Daily
Now we are ready to tone your skin using skin freshener (mild), skin tonic (medium strength), or an astringent lotion (strong). Toning is important because it helps remove any remaining greasiness on your skin after the cleansing process is complete.
I reject the idea of not exfoliating skin especially as we age. It is a step to let our new healthy skin cells come to the surface and give us a glowing youthful look. It helps to close pores and maintain the skin’s natural pH, and if you intend to use makeup, it leaves a smooth clean texture which will hold foundation and powder much longer.
In 2020 due to Covid-19 ago, I had to stop using my favorite Avon exfoliation lotion and noticed my skin started to get these little milla and what my dermatologist informed me later was keratin bumps that can happen as we age. He suggested I use glycolic acid to help alleviate the problem. He also mentioned glycolic acid facials which sounded helpful.
How to choose the proper toner for your skin type
My Favorite Avon Exfoliating pads have glycolic acid in them and this is why my face started to suffer. Those pads kept my skin clear and free of adult acne and dry skin, age related keratin bumps and milla.
Emphasis on toning can be the one step in your twice daily skin-care routine that can have a positive effect on the youth enhancing process of skin exfoliation.
Equally important when exfoliating sensitive skin it is recommended to use a non-alcohol toner that adds nutrients to your skin. Exfoliating dry and or sensitive skin can consist of washing your face with a simple facecloth or facial sponge followed by a non-alcohol moisturizing toner like the 5 star rated Yon-Ka Lotion PS Toner for Dry or Sensitive Skin.
In the event that your skin is oilier which indicates a stronger skin, a skin toner or astringent with glycolic acid or salicylic acid is bound to make a dramatic difference when used regularly.

Step 3 Nourishing Your Skin by adding the right moisturizer
In this section we are going to talk about nourishing your skin is also an essential part of any beauty routine. Dirt, dust, hot and cold weather, cosmetics, and even sunlight, all tend to dry out the skin, robbing it of moisture and oil. Consequently, making sure to cleanse your face each night before bed is essential to younger looking skin.
Skin “foods” or moisturizers attempt to replenish nourishment to the skin, reviving its natural healthiness. Again, different moisturizers work well for different skin types.
Young skin | oily and combination skin
For example, if you have skin that is younger between ages 15-25 you may not need an anti-aging moisturizer. At this stage of your skin, a moisturizer containing sunscreen is your best defense against aging. One I highly recommend is Anew Vitale Day Lotion Broad Spectrum SPF 25.
When your skin is more on the oily side, avoid moisturizers that contain oils and opt for one that contains non- oily ingredients like glycerin instead. If you have drier skin, applying a moisturizer right after washing your face is beneficial to prevent drying and to get moisturizer locked in right away.
Normal or “neutral” skin
The next skin type is neutral or what some call “normal” skin, you can usually get away with using a product that contains oil or glycerin. Just make sure to look for a product for neutral skin types.
Normal to dry skin benefits from a slightly more moisturizing skin care regime. Anyone over 30 needs a larger dose of SFP. Avon Anew Skinvincible fits this bill as It is fragrance free and has an SPF of 50.
One of the most important skin care tips I can give you is to use the best moisturizer for your skin type. It is not a matter of how much it costs, but that the ingredients give you the best results for your skin type.
Conversely, you have neutral or normal skin, which is not to dry or oily, you can usually get away with using a product that contains oil or glycerin. Just make sure to look for a product for neutral skin types.
Also, remember this can change depending on the seasons and where you live, so you can alternate your skin care seasonally. Therefore, it is a good idea to check in with your skin at least a couple of times a year. Fall and Spring.
Dry, Very Dry Skin & Sensitive Skin
Any skin type can be sensitive. The emphasis here though is on dry skin which along with those suffering from skin psoriasis or eczema is the most sensitive skin to treat.
With dry and sensitive skin, there are two main factors to consider; fragrance and moisturizing ingredients and as well gentle exfoliation. Skin sensitivities can arise from both product ingredients and or fragrance. Therefore, choosing fragrance free products that are dermatologist tested for non-allergic ingredients is imperative when choosing skincare.
Avon has a line called Physiogel Hypoallergenic Calming Relief A.I. Face Lotion (6.7 fl. oz.) which is my sensitive skin favorite. I use their calming relief gel with great results on my sensitive facial skin where I am treating a patch of skin psoriasis.
In contrast to normal or oilier stronger skin, if your skin is more on the dry to very dry side, a more oil-based moisturizer like the best-selling Avon Solutions Nutura Replenishing cream that costs a mere $8 or &15 for the larger size contains natural oils, glycerin and lanolin is a better choice to keep your skin barrier intact and healthy.
Nutura moisturizer from Avon boasts 4.8 – star rating and has been a bestseller from Avon since its debut in the mid-1970’s. If you have drier skin, applying a moisturizer right after washing your face is beneficial to prevent drying and to get moisturizer locked in right away.

Bonus Tip My Favorite Drug Store Skin Care
Here is a bonus tip of my favorite drug store skin care for those of you who may need some more choices.
I am recommending two in each category of facial cleansers, moisturizers and toners as these are the foundations of good skin care.
If you have normal or combination skin you can use a charcoal cleanser once week to keep skin and pores clear of debris. I recommend the Biore Charcoal cleanser listed below. Use this weekly only if you have normal or combination skin.
You may use the Biore cleanser twice daily if you have oily or acne prone skin no matter what your age. The Creve foaming cleanser is for normal skin as well as it is so gentle and will not strip your lipid barrier on your skin.
However, if you have dry or very dry skin, I would use the Cereve Hydrating facial cleanser instead it is creamy rinses clean and leaves your skin soft and supple. You can also remove it with a warm washcloth.
Whatever products you decide to use to start you new DIY 4 Step Skin Care Routine For Healthy Skin make it special. Buy some new products set up a special morning and nighttime routine. To get yourself ready for your eight hours of sleep and skin recovery with your new products.
